ABOLUTE-ENCODER AE5

The Absolute ENCODER index for diaphragm gas meters consists of a mechanical index in which all 8 individual rollers are optically electronically scanned and read. The data is then continuously transmitted as a data word via a digital interface to the connected communication modules, ensuring continuous security of data transmission compared to conventional pulse transmission.
The operating energy of the diaphragm meter is derived from the gas pressure. Electric power is only required to read the Absolute CODER, and the M-BUS master makes it available in the case of data transmission via cable. The M-BUS master is integrated in the electricity meter or data concentrator. No batteries are required for this application. In the case of radio data transmission, the battery in the communication module provides power. The “basic version” of the Absolute ENCODER AE5 is “smart reading” and can be retrofitted to cable or wireless communication modules even after network installation.
The communication module is designed as a plug & play solution and is easily connected and sealed to the ENCODER index. The connected receiver is synchronized automatically. The modular connection between the communication module and the ENCODER index allows the replacement of communication modules at any time without the need for additional programming. Therefore, the measuring part of the gas meter remains unchanged.
The consistent modular design of Absolute ENCODER minimizes the effort and cost of installation, commissioning and data provision and ensures investment security for future applications.
The following Absolute ENCODER communication modules (ACMs) are suitable for installation in the Absolute ENCODER AE5 and allow data transmission via cable or wireless transmission.

The ACM M-BUS WIRE communication module can be connected to the Absolute ENCODER AE5 and enables wired M-Bus communication. The ACM M-BUS WIRE communication module can be connected to the M-Bus home network, which communicates using a standard M-Bus or M-Bus OMS (open metering system). ACM M-BUS WIRE supports both protocol variants.

Standard M-Bus

  • The standard M-Bus protocol in accordance with DIN EN 13757-2: 2004 (connection layer) and DIN EN 13757-3: 2004 for meters and remote meter reading has been applied.
  • In order for the ACM M-BUS WIRE to be used in the M-Bus protocol variant, the AE5 must be factory programmed and delivered in the “M-Bus Standard” variant)

M-Bus according to OMS (open metering system

  • M-Bus protocol for data transfer to OMS Vol. 2 is implemented; communication is not encrypted
  • In order for the ACM M-BUS WIRE to be used in the M-Bus OMS variant, the AE5 must be factory programmed and delivered in the “Multi-Protocol” variant.

Technical data ACM M-BUS WIRE

  • Housing: IP 54
  • Ambient temperature: -25 to +55 ° C
  • Connection cable design: 2 m flexible, two-core LiYY cable, fireproof according to IEC 60332-1, cross section = 0.25 mm2
  • The free end of the cable has 2 wire end tubes
  • Power supply via M-Bus: 3 mA (2 M-Bus loads)

The cable-based ACM SCR WIRE connects the Absolute CODER AE5 and the receiving unit to the SCR interface (OBIS code numbers according to OMS). Honeywell can supply compatible data loggers and volume conversion devices. Communication is not encrypted.
Note: To use the ACM SCR WIRE, the AE5 must be factory programmed and shipped in a “Multi-Protocol” variant.

The ACM 5.X M-BUS RADIO communication module transmits the Absolute CODER AE5 meter readings in a one-way basis to a suitable receiving unit – in Germany, a smart meter counter. The transmission complies with BSI TR-03109. The data is transmitted in encrypted form. The ACM comes fully programmed.
Note: To use the ACM 5.X M-BUS RADIO, the AE5 must be pre-programmed and supplied in the “Multi-Protocol” variant.

Protection against unauthorized opening

  • Digital rollers are individually scanned by opto-electronic means. The Absolute CODER is therefore not prone to failures caused by static magnetic fields
  • The mechanical recording system in the measuring part of the gas meter is resistant to electromagnetic interference
  • Unauthorized interference through the index view window can be checked by checking the pressure marks: The three small bars behind the index disc leave clearly visible marks on the index board when the index is pressed
